The World Figure & Fancy Skating Championships on black ice is a blend of the namesake of skating, Figures with Fancy Skating, the original term for artistic or freestyle (free) skating, and the world professional skating legacy originating in the Belle Epoque Era with jewels and art.
Since it’s illustrious founding in Lake Placid in 2015, the World Figure Sport Society, not for profit 501 (c)(3), elevates skating by uniting fine, performing, decorative, and recording arts with the legacies of Sonja Henie’s extravagant ice shows and professional competitions by Dick Button.
World Figure Sport blends Figures and Fancy Skating not only to preserve the namesake of the sport, but to propel the great skating artists with world level award titles, which unites culture, art, and sport in an unprecedented way to achieve extraordinary accomplishments. We are the Academy Award's celebrity culture for Skating Artists.

Lesson Time Skaters should use each lesson wisely to work on the Figure Compositions - the patterns that build the Fancy Skating - quality is more important then quantity
Practice Time Actually, even 5 to 15 minutes of focused practice skating the patterns can make a huge difference! Anyone can make a difference with little time.
Educational Materials The WFS's Skating Exam Catalog and other educational materials help to facilitate and augment the learning of skating's patterns + World Sk8ting & Arts School’s Virtual Academy is live on-line each week to help our Skating Artists of all ages & Skating Educators.
Inspiring Skating Educator A teacher who is delighted to educate students to skating's patterns (how the two edges on each skate blade allows for a skater to glide on 8 edges). The educator should be thrilled to teach how skating’s 8 edges connect to the Fundamental Figure 8 patterns (a skater either glides on an edge or in a straight line on a flat going forward or backwards in all skating elements). Also, the best skating educators understand how this interwoven knowledge creates superb Figure & Fancy Skating for all to enjoy here.

We teach skaters the difference between accurate technique (with line and elegance), compared to the fad of not being taught how to properly skate (using the technology of the blades to create clean edges, turns, alignment, and core stability). This training develops a well rounded person who can execute awesome Figures & Fancy Skating whether gliding on the ice or making a Flying Figure in the air with Fancy Skating.
Our development system is designed so any age and level can continuously explore, practice, take exams and compete all while keeping a healthy perspective that combines patience, perseverance, mindfulness, curiosity, and athletic pleasure.

WFS avoids:
contortion skating, excessive falling, or an exorbitant amount of lessons for skaters (without space for practice) - we know that redundant overuse is not only detrimental to grace, but leads ultimately to the opposite of function in all aspects of body, mind, family, finances, and sport. What is a WFS's Skating Educator?
A WFS's Educator is different than a typical coach. Our "Educators" are specialists who skated and learned the knowledge of skating's structural foundation - the timeless patterns in skating.
A WFS's Skating Educator can also be someone that currently skates or teaches skating and wants to learn the Fundamental, Special, Creative, Free & Flying Figures (now all a part of WFS's Fancy Skating). Either way, a WFS's Skating Educator recognizes and uses the tremendous knowledge made by the mechanics of the blade's patterns on the ice (and how this ultimately affects the entire body and mind's capacity to truly learn and understand skating).

World Figure Sport's
Jurisdiction & Eligibility
World Figure Sport is an independent international sports body that operates under its own jurisdiction, rules, and sanctions since its founding in 2015. The upcoming 2023 season is the "9th Anniversary" of the World Figure & Fancy Skating Championships on black ice. WFS has held International Workshops, Exams & Competitions from Alaska to Germany. Members and future members may take WFS’s Skating Exams either virtually worldwide by appointment or in-person with a reservation.
Eligibility to skate with WFS is - simply to be human!
Other helpful qualities are an open mind with an eagerness to learn, mindfulness (focus/concentration), perseverance, patience, effort, and a pure love of skating.
No other fake eligibility rules are required for human sport here.

No organization owns the world or sport
Any skater from the US, Canada, or other countries are welcome to skate with World Figure Sport and participate in all of our Figure & Fancy Skating opportunities wearing hockey or figure skates. If anyone or entity tells someone otherwise, that person or organization, is following illegal eligibility rules that have been deemed so by an anti-trust investigation. Note: This includes any members of that specific organization that have followed those illegalities.
With WFS, all types of skaters (representing the countries in the world) are eligible
and welcome to participate in the sport discipline of Figures & Fancy Skating
(as long as they show good sportsmanship and do not cheat).
