Founded in 2015, World Figure Sport (WFS) is an independent international organization that upholds, protects and expands the knowledge, art and competition of Figures and Fancy Skating worldwide. WFS is organized in Lake Placid, NY as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Through its educational programming and annual Championship on Black Ice, WFS:
- Elevates skating by uniting fine, performing, decorative, and recording arts with the legacies of Sonja Henie’s extravagant ice shows and professional competitions by Dick Button.
- Promotes the glide, grace, and goodness of skating by inspiring all to learn, take World Figure Sport’s skating exams & compete using skating’s enduring structural foundation of profound patterning. These patterns are found in mathematics, writing, drawing, painting, dancing, and music. Skating’s patterns leave a language on the ice that transcend both culture and time.
- Fosters an inclusive atmosphere so any age and level can continuously explore, practice, take exams and compete all while keeping a healthy perspective that combines patience, perseverance, mindfulness, curiosity, and athletic pleasure. Eligibility to skate with WFS is – simply to be human! Other helpful qualities are an open mind with an eagerness to learn, mindfulness (focus/concentration), perseverance, patience, effort, and a pure love of skating.
- WFS is the only organization to hold International competition in Figures and Fancy Skating at the highest levels. WFS provides meaningful and worthwhile opportunities for full participation at its events by Skating Artists of all ages and levels.
