Figure & Fancy Skating is the only sport that creates and imprints art on the ice. The art that is imprinted on the ice is directly linked in the lines, curves, shapes and patterns that are found in the fine arts of handwriting, calligraphy, drawing and painting so the Art of Skating intrinsically exists in skating’s core, alphabet and language. This organic development of the art is where skating’s language, anatomy, profound knowledge and beauty never change and the language is always there to be discovered because it brings wonder and awe to the Fancy Skater on a quest of exploration.
Skating all starts with a line. Yes, it’s incredible. Skating is similar to learning how to write on paper. Writing the alphabet in any language starts with a line and then develops into curves and other shapes, thereby, creating a unique language. A unique language exists in the Art of Skating with a specific Skating Alphabet firmly rooted in Figures and Fancy Skating.
The lines, curves and other shapes are made by the skater’s blades (the pencil). The blades leave a skating alphabet (a specific shape that is correct or not on the ice). The mind directs the course and is developed from a constantly evolving depth of understanding. To actually make the Skating Alphabet the entire body is engaged in fulfilling the edge to create the shape and the body position to attain it.
Whether writing on paper or on the ice, both start with a line and then develop into a written or skating alphabet universally established on-ice by the global forces of gravity, centrifugal force and friction (because ice is not frictionless).
Profound and Simple Links to Art and Skating
To remove any impediments to learning the Skating Alphabet our Global School teaches the Fine Art of Handwriting, Calligraphy, Drawing and Painting with the curriculum directed towards the Skating Alphabet and how these shapes are a universal language in the Fine Art of Skating, Writing, Drawing and Painting. Classes are year-round and offered on-line and in-person. Anyone can register for both of our Fine Art Classes/Courses.
The Skating Alphabet is the heart and soul of World Figure Sport and the World Figure & Fancy Skating Championships on black ice. The line is where it all starts and develops into the Fine Art of Skating just like in handwriting, calligraphy, drawing and painting. The Skating Alphabet is the only universal language that creates great skating from the mathematical proofs of skating technique left on any piece of ice whether gliding, spinning or flights of fancy in the air. The Skating Alphabet starts on the ice and then goes airborne where the writing still exists in flight and lands with the Skating Alphabet continuing on the ice that either makes an unclear jumbled handwriting with scratching and curlycues or one that flows out on a clean edge with speed and precision on the curve thereby producing a World Class achievement – the Fine Art of Skating.
Our Global School is an efficient, effective and affordable way to develop Fancy Skating Artists. Our creative and cutting edge process removes impediments to learning without adding more ice time and on-ice lessons. We teach the neural pathways off the ice with the Fine Art to develop the neural pathways of the lines, curves and shapes that firmly establish the brain to hand connections so then the neural pathways can more efficiently and effectively transfer on the ice from the brain to the blade and the blade to the brain.
Fine Art of Handwriting and Calligraphy’s curriculum is directed towards the Skating Alphabet and how these shapes are a universal language in the Fine Art of Handwriting. Classes are year-round and offered on-line and in-person. Anyone can register for both of our Fine Art Classes/Courses.

Fine Art of Drawing and Painting’s curriculum is directed towards the Skating Alphabet and how these shapes are a universal language in Fine Art and specifically in winter skating scenes. Classes are year-round and offered on-line and in-person. Anyone can register for both of our Fine Art Classes/Courses.
