Recording Arts

Today’s music copyright issues affect everyone’s ability to release works across global social media and video platforms.  Since 2016, WFS has taken a positive artistic approach to this issue by expanding the genre of Recording Arts available for use. WFS works with a growing network of professional musicians to score and record original instrumental and/or vocal music in all genres, which may be used for WFS events (Anyone may request permission to license WFS works for other purposes).  The initial published results of this effort are available on World Figure Sport’s Black Ice Album. The first results of this effort, World Figure Sport’s Black Ice Album including 18 musical pieces created for our Skating Artists, is available worldwide on Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube.

Skating Artists may perform to existing music from WFS Recording Arts, or they may work with WFS or musicians they already know to commission music for their program, or they may record it themselves.  A Skating Artist may choose to perform to other music but it is best to keep an open mind and explore all options and opportunities.  All music must be approved by WFS.  Skating Artists preparing to perform at WFS events are encouraged to set up a music consultation with WFS by 518-304-3029.

WFS can provide resources for Skating Artists with the skills and desire to record their own music, including access to other musicians and recording studios.
